Motorways, Bridges & Tunnels
ENKA’s involvement in motorway, bridge & tunnel projects began with the construction of the approach roads to the Bosphorus Bridge and the İstanbul peripheral motorway in 1970. In the 1970s, ENKA took on a number of other projects in Turkey on different sections of the European Highway. During the same period, ENKA constructed various motorway tunnels on the Anatolian Highway, such as the 660 m İzmit open tunnel, as well as the 580 m Dilderesi and 440 m Hereke twin tube tunnels with cross sections of 150 sqm and 90 sqm, respectively. Additionally, Hereke Viaduct which ENKA's own production pre-tension precast cross beams were used during construction and special wide span overpasses without mid-base between Gebze-İzmit section of the highway were also built.

In the 1980s, ENKA undertook its first road construction contract in Libya, for the Tarhuna - Quasbat Highway, and proceeded with contracts in Saudi Arabia and Jordan for the construction of a number of overpasses, bridges and expressways.

Between 1987 and 1990, ENKA built three 700 m tunnels for the Bekhme Dam project in Mosul, Iraq each with a diameter of 12 m, as well as grout and access tunnels of 5 m diameter with an approximate total length of 4,000 m.

In 1986, ENKA, and its partner Bechtel, signed a contract for the construction of a 230 km motorway connecting Ankara with the town of Gerede and the peripheral motorway around Ankara. Following this, the partnership was awarded the turn-key construction contract for the 156 km Bregana-Zagreb-Dubrovnik motorway in Croatia in 1998.
